The Kansas City Chiefs gave Travis Kelce a month to figure out what he wanted to do with his career, but it appears he did not need that long to think on it.

Kelce has nothing left to prove, and if he were to retire tomorrow, he’s still be worthy of being a Pro Football Hall of Famer. He has set multiple tight end records, won three Super Bowl rings, and is widely considered one of the greatest tight ends ever.

That retirement has been put on hold.

During an appearance on Saturday on an episode of “The Steam Room,” Kelce’s brother, Jason, says that he believes his brother made up his mind about retirement.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed it on Tuesday. He stated Travis Kelce’s future was “up in the air” following the Super Bowl, but now he should be back with the Chiefs for the 2025 season.

General manager Brett Veach said at the NFL scouting combine this week that the team is operating as if Kelce will return.

“How we left it at the end of the season was he was fired up, has one more year under contract,” Veach said, via KCTV. “[I] still think he has the fire and desire to play.

“As far as I’m concerned, there is no deadline. I think we left it as he’d be back. We’re excited to get him back and get him going.”

The Chiefs Could Find Cap Space With Cutting Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a deadline to tell the team whether he would retire or keep playing.

It appears he will play at least one more season.

However, will the team keep him on the roster?

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz dropped his list of bold offseason predictions and suggested that the Chiefs should cut Kelce to create cap space for the 2025 season.

He revealed that cutting Kelce would cost the Chiefs only $2.5 million in dead money while saving them over $17 million in cap space.

The team is unlikely to make a move like that and just might restructure his contract instead.

Releasing an all-time tight end and fan favorite will not go over well with Chiefs fans.
