On Saturday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the NFL has fined Kansas City Chiefs’ right end Travis Kelce nearly $15,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct (including obscene gestures) during last Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
If that seems excessive, consider this: Pelissero also reported that the NFL fined Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley more than three times as much — over $46,000 for — lowering his helmet during a play in the same game.
Neither player was flagged for their behavior during the matchup.
Of course, Kelce drew national headlines (and was fined $11,000, which was worth a lot more then than it is now) for an obscene gesture he made to an official during a game against the Denver Broncos in 2014 — an act that head coach Andy Reid called “immature.” But in recent years, we’ve seen the superstar tight end involved in fewer and fewer incidents like these.
