Travis Kelce is still licking his wounds after getting blown out by the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Even prior to the Super Bowl, speculation began over whether Travis Kelce would enter retirement and it became a hot topic after the Chiefs got their lunch handed to them.
On the latest episode of the New Heights Podcast with the Kelce brothers, Travis discussed the bitter loss and addressed whether or not he would return or retire. Should he return, Travis will earn ~$17.127M next season which is certainly a compelling reason to run it back.
Speaking with his brother Jason, Travis said “I know everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions.” He went on to say that the “biggest thing” for everyone in the Chiefs organization is “being there” for each other after this brutal loss.
Travis went on to say “it’s just a tough reality” and “there’s a lot that goes into this thing, you know? A lot of wear and tear on your body.” We know, Gronk retired at 33 due to the brutal toll the NFL took on his body. Travis Kelce will be 36 years old next season.
Making sure to not make any rash decisions about retirement, Travis Kelce said “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out. And, I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s a wholehearted decision. I’m not half a—– it, and I’m fully here for them.”
If anyone understands what Travis is going through right now it’s his brother, the person he was speaking to, and his partner in the New Heights Podcast which has rocketed to one of if not THE most popular sports podcast in the industry. They inked a $100 million deal with Amazon’s Wondery for the podcast last year which certainly factors into the decision as podcasting doesn’t take a toll on their bodies…
Speaking about his mental space after the brutal Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Travis also added “after the game, I had my best friends and my family and my loved ones and everybody that has supported me throughout my life there to make it not feel like the worst day of my life, gonna suck for quite a while. It’s just life, man. It’s life.”
Ultimately, nobody wins them all. Travis Kelce already holds 3 Super Bowl rings. Sure, they were seeking to become the first team to win three in a row during the modern Super Bowl era and fell short but Travis has had a Hall of Fame caliber career and this loss won’t define that.
