Travis Kelce has been a very busy man over the past couple of years while attempting to capitalize on the many opportunities that come with being one of the most marketable players in the NFL. However, he recently admitted he may have overextended himself while addressing a decline that’s indisputably correlated with his attempts to branch out.
There are plenty of perks that come with dating one of the biggest musical sensations on the planet, and while Travis Kelce has certainly reaped the benefits of his incredibly high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, he was also doing pretty well for himself before they became a couple.
The tight end was an eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion prior to their hard launch in 2023. He’s continued to pad that résumé since then while adding two more tallies to that first category and another to the second, but the man who had at least 1,000 receiving yards in seven straight seasons between 2017 and 2022 has failed to hit that milestone in the past two years while experiencing a decline in other notable statistical categories.
There are certainly a number of factors that have contributed to that trend, including teams that have made it a point to try to shut him down and the age of an NFL veteran who will turn 36 in the midst of his 13th season as a pro.
However, he’s acknowledged another that’s also played a role.
Kelce was no stranger to side hustles before his relationship with Swift introduced him to an unprecedented level of fame, as he’d already started the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason in 2022, inked sponsorship deals with a bunch of major brands, and amassed a diverse business portfolio while funding a number of different ventures.
However, he also decided to turn his attention to movies and television while taking advantage of the flood of opporunites that started coming his way a couple of years ago, which included a gig as the host of Are You Smarter than a Celebrity? as well as minor acting roles in the Ryan Murphy series Grotesquerie and, most recently, Happy Gilmore 2.
GQ recently profiled Kelce for an article where he touched on a number of different subjects, and he candidly admitted his foray into entertainment has served as a bit of a distraction from his primary job, saying:
“I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up. And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer.
**I don’t say this as ‘I shouldn’t have done it.’ I’m just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off,...
