Travis Hunter and his wife, Leanna, are officially the parents of a baby boy. The couple announced the birth of their son in a YouTube video on Wednesday.
The timing of that news is notable for a number of reasons, many of which revolve around his football career.
Travis and Leanna have been together since he was a high school football player in Georgia. Their relationship spanned his college career at both Jackson State and Colorado.
They got engaged February of last year. They were married this past May.
Now, the next step in their journey has arrived.

The announcement was made in a video titled, “Dear Son…” posted to the NFL star’s YouTube page. The news comes not long after he signed a $46.6 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and days before his first professional game.
The Jaguars are set to take on the Panthers on September 7th, less than two weeks from the online update about his son’s birth.
He’s missed time in the preseason with injury, though he’s expected to be full-go come the regular season opener. It seems he’s had a bit more on his plate during that time!
With that said, the path to fatherhood hasn’t necessarily been an easy one. The Hunters have been put under the spotlight of the football world.
Much of the attention received has been negative.
Fans have targeted the marriage with claims of ulterior motives on Leanna’s end. Travis Hunter did not sign a prenup. He’s now a very rich man.
That doesn’t seem to matter to him. And it probably shouldn’t to those that don’t know him, either.
His wife’s every move has been analyzed. She was blasted for her reaction in the stands after his final college home game at Colorado.

Criticism continued into his Heisman trophy ceremony less than a month later.
In mid-December, Travis Hunter accepted the honor of being named college football’s best player. Leanna went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The backlash from her supposed bad behavior led to false internet claims. It caused Hunter to briefly leave social media while his wife taped an eight-minute response to the personal intrusion.

Travis Hunter recalled his then-fiancée crying herself to sleep each night. As it turns out, she was newly pregnant around the time of the social media firestorm.
The typical length of a pregnancy is 40 weeks. Quick math tells us that if the child was born today, which is the absolute latest possibility, the date of conception is somewhere around November 20th.
The Heisman trophy ceremony was held on December 14th.
