The Jacksonville Jaguars may have landed the most stunning two-way prospect in recent times, but “Madden NFL 26” isn’t buying the hype, at least not yet.
Travis Hunter, the Heisman-winning cornerback and wide receiver who went No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, received a 76 overall rating in the upcoming EA Sports game, set to release August 14.
It’s a decent rookie mark by Madden standards, but considering Hunter’s résumé, the number raised some eyebrows. The 22-year-old took it in stride.
“That’s the ‘Madden’ rating, that’s it,” Hunter said with a smile during minicamp this week. “I’m not worried about a ‘Madden’ rating right now. I’m worried about playing football.”
Hunter dominated at Colorado in 2024, playing 1,552 total snaps across offense, defense, and special teams. He caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, added a rushing score, and made four interceptions with 11 pass breakups on defense. Pro Football Focus graded him as one of the top players in the country.

Still, EA Sports ratings adjuster Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson wasn’t ready to push him into elite territory. In a December conversation, Hunter told Johnson he deserved an 85. Johnson shot back with a 76. “That’s the best I could do for you as a rookie,” Johnson said.
The fan response wasn’t exactly charitable.
One user posted, “He isn’t a star, lol. Hasn’t played a single snap yet.”

Another chimed in, “Generational bust. Calling it now.”

Some were more measured, calling the number “Ok I mean that’s pretty fair.”

Hunter doesn’t seem rattled. During the Jaguars’ minicamp, he’s made a strong impression. On Wednesday, he hauled in a touchdown during 11-on-11s and even picked off a pass one-handed in OTAs earlier this month.
“He’s got a wealth of talent and he’s super intelligent,” said Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. “He’s really quick on the uptake, fun guy to coach.”
Hunter’s workload remains a topic of interest. The Jaguars continue to explore using him on both sides of the ball, but for now, the focus is on his development, not on a video game number. “Madden” might think he’s a 76, but in Jacksonville, the expectations are clearly much higher.
