We still don’t know who the Tennessee Titans were referring to on Wednesday when team president Chad Brinker said “we won’t pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL Draft”.
That hasn’t stopped bettors from assuming they know who Brinker was winking at.
In the hours following Brinker’s remarks, the odds for two-star Travis Hunter to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft saw a massive surge at a number of sportsbooks. Hunter’s odds improved from 15-1 at BetMGM on Wednesday morning, to +625 at noon to +150 by Thursday morning.
“Travis Hunters odds movement to be the 1st pick in the NFL Draft shows how unique this betting market is,” BetMGM trading manager Christian Cipollini said in an email. “Odds and action will change based off just a few words. We have seen significant betting on Hunter since the comments made yesterday by Titans executives.”
At BetMGM, Hunter is now has the second-best odds to go No. 1 overall behind Miami quarterback Cam Ward (+110). Hunter also remains the book’s biggest liability, leading all No. 1 pick markets in tickets (44 percent) and handle (42.3 percent).
Ultimately these markets are moving on hype and expectation more than anything concrete. The Titans may have landed on their idea of a “generational talent” with the No. 1 pick, but so far no one has any real clue who they’re talking about.
