Travis Hunter’s father, Travis Hunter Sr., has been taken into police custody in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The troubled father of the NFL rookie and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner was taken into custody for violating the terms of his probation. According to authorities, his court-ordered location monitor lost track of him for 11 minutes.
A warrant was issued for Travis Sr. on July 10 after his probation officer said authorities briefly lost track of him the night of June 28 when he was “too far away from his monitoring device to be accurately tracked,” according to court documents obtained by USA Today.
USA TODAY Sports said it contacted Hunter Sr.’s attorney for comment but didn’t immediately receive a response.
According to the records, the 11-minute lapse was a violation of his “community control” probation, which led to the warrant being issued. Hunter Sr. triggered a “bracelet gone” alarm between 8:07 and 8:18 p.m. on June 28.
Court documents showed that the probation officer tested the device on July 4 and determined it was working properly. Travis Hunter Sr. told the officer he was “moving too fast and forgot it.”
Hunter Sr. is being held at the West Palm Beach jail without bond.
The 39-year-old was placed under electronic monitoring in 2023 as part of a three-year probation for gun and drug charges. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 3 years on probation, including one year of house arrest.
Training camps have kicked off around the NFL.
How the Jacksonville Jaguars split Travis Hunter’s workload in training camp is one of the league’s biggest storylines.
Although he’s facing a learning curve like any other rookie, he’s routinely showcased his talent.
There’s a strong possibility Hunter won’t play two ways full-time because of how stacked the Jags are at both wide receiver and cornerback.
