When the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to select Travis Hunter with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they knew they were getting a one-of-a-kind football player. What they may not have known, however, is just what a good human being they were drafting. Hunter went viral over the weekend for a heartwarming interaction on a plane ride alongside one of his new biggest fans.
Hunter flew into Jacksonville from Denver last week for the start of the Jaguars’ rookie minicamp. During the flight, he was seated alongside an older woman named Sandy Hawkins Combs. Hawkins Combs did not know who Hunter was when the flight began. But she later found out and shared a heartwarming story of Hunter’s kindness.
**“**I had the most wonderful flight home from Denver. I met the nicest young man who sat next to me. He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no ma’am.’ Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson—so polite,” Combs said in a post on Facebook.
**“People walking by were saying congratulations, great job, or even taking pictures. I turned and asked him, ‘Who am I sitting next to?’ I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, ‘**Are you an athlete?’ He smiled and said, ‘I’m Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.’ I already told my sons I want his jersey.
“He’s so humble and down-to-earth—I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete. JACKSONVILLE JAGS, you did good! I will be buying tickets.”
This isn’t the first time Hunter has shown off his down-to-earth personality. Hunter’s character is a large reason why he flew up NFL Draft boards. But it just goes to show that the Jaguards aren’t just getting an elite talent, but a fantastic young man as well.
