The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly been on the hunt for a wide receiver in the trade market over the last few weeks, and ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano believes that is utter folly from the franchise.
Pittsburgh sits atop the AFC North standings, but they are a paper first-place team at the moment. They have been better than many NFL analysts expected, and could easily be 6-1 if not for some tough losses this season. That’s why they have been poking around the trade market in recent weeks.
According to various reports, the Steelers have been looking at getting greybeard QB Aaron Rodgers some help in the pass game. Which makes sense because he doesn’t have any worthwhile targets after DK Metcalf. Yet, while the offense can use more weapons, they are just outside the top 10 in scoring per game. They really aren’t the problem with the Steelers this season.
On the other hand, their usually good defense has surprisingly been their weak link. Two weeks ago, they scored 31 points and lost to a Cincinnati Bengals team with Joe Flacco leading the offense. They scored 25 against a good Green Bay Packers defense last week, but lost by ten. And in Week 1, they just barely eked out a 34-32 victory over the lowly New York Jets.
That’s why Dan Graziano believes the wide receiver trade chatter he and other ESPN NFL insiders have been hearing about the Steelers recently doesn’t make much sense.
On Tuesday, the Steelers did make a trade to improve the offense when they traded for New England Patriots defensive back Kyle Dugger. But the Pats have the second-best record in the AFC. Dugger was an expendable player, not an impact star on a bad team gave up to try and rebuild with draft picks.
