Packers release star Jaire Alexander

Mandatory minicamp week begin with a top player surprisingly becoming available as the Green Bay Packers decided to release standout cornerback Jaire Alexander, according to NFL media.

There was talk earlier in the offseason that the Packers could trade Alexander, but there was also talk that the two sides could restructure his deal to keep him in Green Bay. In the end, he is now a free agent.

There is expected to be wide interest around the NFL in Alexander, 28. Of course, the Las Vegas Raiders could be among the teams that pursue Alexander.

While the Raidersโ€™ coaching staff has praised their group of cornerbacks, it could use another veteran presence and Alexander is intriguing. He is a top cornerback when healthy, but that has been an issue.

He has missed 10 games in each of the past two seasons. He missed just one game in 2022, but he missed 13 games in 2021. So, his durability is a concern. But on a short-term deal, he may be worth pursuing.
