Johnson, known as “CJ2K,” ran the 40-yard dash in 4.24 seconds at the 2008 NFL Combine. A running back from East Carolina University, Johnson went on to have an exceptional career, including a 2,006-yard season with the Tennessee Titans in 2006, which earned him a spot in NFL history.
Menendez, a wide receiver from the University of Miami, matched Chris Johnson’s 4.24-second time in the 1999 NFL Combine. Though Menendez’s time was impressive, his NFL career did not reach the same heights as some of the other athletes on this list.
Barnes, a cornerback from Baylor University, recorded a 4.23-second 40-yard dash time at the 2022 NFL Combine. His speed made him one of the most talked-about defensive prospects that year, and he eventually went on to play for the Carolina Panthers.
Ross previously held the record for the fastest 40-yard dash, running it in 4.22 seconds at the 2017 NFL Combine. A wide receiver from the University of Washington, Ross’s blazing speed earned him the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Worthy, a wide receiver from the University of Texas, set the new record for the fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL Combine history in 2024. His time of 4.21 seconds left a lasting impression on scouts and solidified his reputation as one of the fastest prospects to enter the NFL.
