Tony Romo has offered an explanation for his questionable performance in the booth on Sunday.
Romo left CBS viewers scratching their heads while covering the Bills-Jaguars game, with one ridiculous comment standing out.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback became the network’s No. 1 analyst in 2017 and was considered the best on the air. But he hasn’t seemed as great in recent years, and fans reckon Sunday’s appearance was the worst of his career.
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy suggested the ex-QB was on drugs. If that were the case, it would have been prescription drugs.
Because Romo has heard the complaints and revealed that he was actually sick on Sunday.
The high-profile announcer spoke to SiriusXM’s Adam Schein on Wednesday, telling the host he was under the weather.
“You’re not going to miss a playoff game,” he said. “It’s too much fun.”
The 45-year-old also admitted that he’s going to have his moments.
“I think anytime you’re in a position like we are — we’re on the air for three and a half hours – you’re always trying to do the best you can and everything,” he explained. “There’s always going to be moments where always all this great stuff, and then other stuff. It’s just part of being in your position.”
Romo said all he can do is “go back to work, and you do a great job. I mean, that’s the fun part about this. It’s sports, and it makes it fun.”
“You’re just trying to make everyone enjoy the show, and learn a little bit and have a great time,” he added. “To me, it’s what makes sports amazing. It’s fun.”
While fans have been calling for CBS to dismiss Romo, he isn’t going anywhere soon. The former signal-caller signed a 10-year, $180 million contract with the network that doesn’t expire until 2030.
Perhaps they could have another “intervention” with him after having reportedly done so in 2022.
