Sunday’s matchup between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers provides more than just a battle between two of the top quarterbacks this season in Drake Maye and Baker Mayfield.
It’s also a matchup between the two teams with which Tom Brady won a Super Bowl. Brady won six Super Bowls with New England and a seventh with the Bucs
So, who did the greatest football player of all-time pick? The game.
“We’ve got two teams who might feel like they have something to prove.” Brady opened his assessment with.
He’s not wrong there. The Patriots have won six in a row, but are constantly questioned about their weak schedule, something head coach Mike Vrabel pushed back against earlier this week.
While Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers have key injuries that could prompt experts and fans to write them off, Brady loves the juice that two teams with something to prove provides.
“Game of the year alert? I think so,” Brady said. “Just don’t ask me to pick any sides here.”
If he picks against the Patriots, he is disrespecting the franchise that ignited it all for him. If Brady goes against the Buccaneers, he’s going to anger the franchise that took him in when Bill Belichick thought he was past his prime.
It’s also the Tom Brady we’ve all grown accustomed to in New England. He knows how to say something without saying anything. Not just an elite quarterback, but also an elite filibuster.
We still have to wonder who Tom Brady will be rooting for, even though he won’t be calling the game.
