The New England Patriots officially inducted former head coach Bill Parcells and wide receiver Julian Edelman into the team’s Hall of Fame on Saturday. Congratulatory messages were flying in for both guys, and for Edelman, he received one from none other than Tom Brady.
A seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Edelman eventually ended up becoming Brady’s favorite target in the passing game during the second half of their dynasty, helping the team win their three most recent championships.
Edelman has praised Brady on several occasions for helping him become one of the top slot receivers in NFL history, and on Saturday, Brady returned the favor. After Edelman was officially inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame, Brady chimed in with a video message for one of his favorite pass catchers.
“Julian, congratulations on being inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame,” Brady said as part of his message to Edelman. “Such a well-deserved honor, and honestly, there’s nobody who is more deserving and embodies what it means to be a Patriot more than you.”
Edelman caught 620 passes for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns over his 12-year career, all of which were spent in New England. He won three Super Bowls with New England, with his crowning achievement being Super Bowl MVP honors in Super Bowl LIII, when he caught 10 passes for 141 yards.
There was no doubt that Edelman’s spot in Patriots history had been secure for quite some time, but now, it’s official. And to make it even better, he received a special message from a guy who played a big role in his success throughout his NFL career.
