It’s not exactly a big secret that legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady is a unique individual. After all, most NFL fans watch him try to act like a normal human being on FOX Sports commentary each Sunday.
And then there’s his bizarre relationship with nutritionist Alex Guerrero and his strange diet that seemingly banned, well, everything.
But all of those quirks almost seemed to make Brady a little more likable. Sure, he was weird. But who among us is not? Brady’s latest quirk, however, takes things a step too far.
According to People, Brady revealed that his current dog, Junie, is a clone of his previous dog Lua — whom he shared with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children — and who died in December 2023.
“I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” Brady said in a press release from Colossal Biosciences, a biotech company he is an investor in. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”
The company “gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog,” Brady continued, adding that he is “excited how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”
Now listen, I am a huge dog person. Grew up with dogs my entire life and would like to own dogs throughout my life. And the passing of a beloved dog, or any pet, really, is a very difficult thing to deal with.
But you can’t just replace the dog with the same dog! That’s weird!
Part of what makes a bond with a pet so great, and what makes their death so painful, is knowing that it was a one-time type of deal.
Go to a shelter, Tom! There are plenty of loving dogs just waiting for homes. Especially homes where they likely live better than most human beings.
