Thursday Night Football, Week 5. Tonight we have a clash of NFC West rivals as the Los Angeles Rams host the San Francisco 49ers.
The Los Angeles Rams have gotten off to a fast start to the season with a 3-1 record, good for first place in the NFC West. The Rams only loss has been to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Last week the Rams beat the previously undefeated Indianapolis Colts. The Rams feature a solid defense and a well-balanced offense with an efficient running game and the most dominant receiver in the NFL this season in Puka Nacua, who is on pace for well over 2000 receiving yards. Now the Rams seek to gain sole possession of first place in the NFC West against another 3-1 team, the 49ers.
The San Francisco 49ers sit in a three way tie for first place in the NFC West at 3-1. They lost their first game of the season last week against the surprising Jacksonville Jaguars. Now they take on a very good Rams team. They’ll have to manage without starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who is out with an injury. Starting in Purdy’s stead will be journeyman quarterback Mac Jones.
The Rams have taken the last three games between these two teams. Prior to that the 49ers had won nine of the previous ten contests.
