The Tennessee Titans wrapped up the preseason 2-1 with their 23-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings at Nissan Stadium on Friday night. Cam Ward had another impressive game. I have been doing my best not to get too excited about Ward before he proves he can play in games that count, but man, he was impressive tonight. His arm talent jumps off the screen. He can make all the throws and does it from all the angles. It is fun to watch. Now it is up to Brian Callahan to maximize what he has in Ward.
Van Jefferson, who drew the scorn of Titans Twitter with his drop last week, bounced back with an impressive game against the Vikings. He had 3 catches for 102 yards and a touchdown:
He showed some acceleration on the play that I didn’t know he had.
Julius Chestnut, who is always impressive in the preseason, had a nice night, including this 4th down run with a sweet hurdle:
The Titans will probably keep 4 running backs on their initial 53-man roster, with Tyjae Spears being banged up. That gives you Tony Pollard, Spears, Chestnut, and rookie Kalel Mullings, who looked good tonight with 6 carries for 27 yards.
One of the big questions about this defense heading into camp was who would play inside linebacker next to Cody Barton. Well, James Williams and Cedric Gray have both been impressive in the preseason. Williams had an interception in the game tonight.
It gets real now. The Titans have until Tuesday to get the roster down to 53 players. They will then have the first claim on any players who are cut around the league. There will be a lot to follow over the next few days. Stay tuned.
