With the Tennessee nearing the end of OTAs, Cam Ward is in the early steps of learning Brian Daboll’s offensive system. While he’s had some issues so far this offseason, head coach Robert Saleh claims he likes what he’s seen from the soon-to-be second-year quarterback.
However, Saleh hesitated a bit when the term “elite” was mentioned, according to Braden Gall of 440 Sports. The good news is that the reason the 47-year-old head coach isn’t quick to call Ward elite is that he is still evaluating the young quarterback.
“We have a really, really, really good QB,” said Saleh… “In all of our move-the-ball periods, where we go unscripted, that’s where he shines the most. I think he shines in those moments because he’s just playing football. It’s exciting to see him develop through these OTAs.”
“However, when asked about Ward’s ‘elite traits,’ Saleh paused and decided not to answer,” reported Gall. “‘I don’t know if I want to answer that right now because I’m still learning him,’ [Saleh] said.”
Cam Ward, who is 24 years old, flashed major potential during his rookie year. However, the first half of the campaign was less than stellar, while the second half looked great. The former No. 1 overall pick ended the 2025-26 season throwing for 3,169 passing yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 59.8% of his pass attempts.
The Titans made a plethora of big moves this offseason to improve the roster as well as the coaching staff. One key addition came early in the 2026 NFL Draft when the front office selected wide receiver Carnell Tate No. 4 overall to become the new top target for Ward. As the offseason continues and the ex-Miami Hurricane develops under Daboll, Robert Saleh could be throwing the word “elite” around soon.
