Adam Schefter is reporting that Tyler Lockett asked for and was granted his release from the Tennessee Titans. Lockett had not had much of an impact on the field, but it was good to have a veteran presence in the receiver room with so many young guys in that group. This move leaves Van Jefferson as pretty much the lone veteran receiver.
This is the second year the Titans brought in a veteran slot receiver that they hoped could be an asset for a young quarterback. Last year it was Tyler Boyd. Neither guy, Boyd or Lockett, had much of an impact on the field. Hopefully, this offseason they can find a slot guy that actually has some juice to make some plays on the field.
Lockett’s release obviously opens a roster spot. This past week, with Calvin Ridley out, the Titans called up Mason Kinsey. It will be interesting to see if he stays on the 53-man roster. Fans have been clamoring to see Xavier Restrepo, but the team doesn’t seem to have the same level of excitement about him.
