How will the Tennessee Titans use their resources to improve the roster this offseason?
The Tennessee Titans are entering a critical offseason. New general manager Mike Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker are planning to slowly rebuild the roster. They won’t repeat Ran Carthon’s mistakes by signing aging veterans to bloated contracts.
The new approach doesn’t mean the Titans don’t have the assets required to quickly improve after going an NFL-worst 3-14 in 2024. They own the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, where they could choose to draft a quarterback, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward.
Borgonzi is also equipped with the 35th overall pick. The Titans unfortunately don’t have a third-round selection, but they do possess one of the first overall selections in the fourth round (No. 102) in addition to a second fourth-round pick (119).
The Titans are also in excellent standing against the salary cap. The Nashville-based club possesses approximately $44 million in cap space, 11th-most in the league, according to OverTheCap. In “effective cap space,” (utilizing projections), they’ll have roughly $35.7 million to spend in free agency.
Combining these assets, Pro Football Focus claims the Titans are in the fourth-best position of any team in the league heading into free agency and the NFL draft.
The Titans have massive needs all over their roster, most concerning, at premium positions. A quarterback is needed to replace (or at least compete with) Will Levis. The offensive line (right guard and right tackle) needs notable upgrades. The pass rush, which recorded the third-fewest sacks in 2024, could use a premium talent like Abdul Carter. Wide receivers are needed opposite Calvin Ridley. Secondary needs include safety, defensive lineman, and off-ball linebacker.
The Titans can’t possibly address all of these needs via the NFL draft. Borgonzi and Brinker are going to supplement the roster with free agency. They possess the assets required to be as aggressive as they’d like to be this offseason.
