It’s been a crazy 24ish hours for the Tennessee Titans. Yesterday, they fired Brian Callahan without having the interim coach named. That’s pretty rare. Paul Kuharsky said on A Football Show this morning that it going down that way leads him to believe that this came directly from Amy Adams-Strunk. Firing Callahan wasn’t the wrong decision, but as things usually go with her, the way she went about it was terrible.
- Kuharsky broke the news yesterday that Titans offensive line coach Bill Callahan will also be leaving the team. That’s not a surprise, as the only reason he came here was to coach with his son. Bill was touted as one of the best offensive line coaches in the league. That didn’t play out here.
- The Titans named Mike McCoy the interim head coach. It will be interesting to see if there are any real changes that happen over the next few weeks with him at the helm.
- Mike Silver has a really good column at The Athletic about the current Titans’ dysfunction. It’s a depressing, but necessary read for every Titans fan.
- One interesting note from that column is that Jeffery Simmons stopped practice last Thursday because he didn’t like what he was seeing on the field, particularly from right tackle JC Latham:
According to several witnesses, Simmons stopped Thursday’s practice to point out what he considered a poor showing by second-year right tackle JC Latham, who had missed the previous four weeks with a hip injury. “I’ve watched you for the last 10 plays, and this ain’t it,” Simmons told Latham. “We need more from you.”
- I have been critical of Simmons as a leader in the past, but that is exactly what you want from a leader and the best player on the team.
- You might be panicked, but JC Latham isn’t:
