An interesting nugget from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler
One of the more surprising things about this offseason for the Tennessee Titans was that they did not add a better veteran quarterback to be the backup. The lack of action there was the first thing that told us they were drafting Cam Ward. He was always going to be the starter, but it would still have been nice to have a better veteran behind him as the backup.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN spent some time with the Titans last week, and one of the things he noted was that while they are happy with what Brandon Allen has done so far, they will continue to monitor other quarterbacks that become available over the next month. Fowler said they will monitor both free agents and potential trade targets.
This makes a lot of sense. It would be best for the backup to have been here for the entire offseason, but if there is someone out there with more upside than Allen, they should absolutely try to bring that guy in.
Hopefully, none of this matters because Ward stays healthy and plays well, but it is good to know that they are still hoping to upgrade the position.
