Can Rashan Gary be the closer that the Packers need?

The Green Bay Packers must get more consistent pressure on the quarterback from their defensive line in 2025. That should not be a controversial statement, especially after seeing the group become entirely too passive for long stretches last season.

As ESPN analyst Mina Kimes recently put it, the Packers need a closer on the defensive side of the ball — someone they can count on to get pressure on the quarterback when they absolutely must have it. Is Rashan Gary that guy? He has shown flashes at times, but he remains too inconsistent to truly be considered that player at this point. Taking a big step and becoming that player would be a huge boost for this group, but he’ll need to harness some productivity that he hasn’t had since his knee injury more than two years ago.

If he doesn’t take that step forward, Gary could actually be looking at the possibility of a release next offseason, given his contract situation. The pressure is on for Gary and the rest of this unit to improve and to do so immediately. Let’s look at that topic and much more in today’s curds.
