A large group of Packers players showed up in an intriguing thought exercise this week.
What does an NFL team need to have a successful run over a long period of time? That’ a question that GMs and front offices have been asking for decades, but the answer is probably pretty simple.
The problem is the execution.
First of all, you need a top-level quarterback. The Packers certainly feel that they have that in Jordan Love, who should only continue to grow in his third year as a starter. Next, you need a quality offensive line. That has been a particular area of focus for this team recently, especially this offseason as they retooled the line to focus more on being a powerful team up front.
Defensively, you need some players capable of getting to the quarterback and then those who can make plays on the football down the field. The pass rush is more of an open question, but they do have a Pro Bowl defensive end in Rashan Gary who is hopefully poised for a bounce-back season as a pass-rusher. Then you have Xavier McKinney, a game-changer on the back end.
All of these players can make a massive impact on a game, and their contributions — as well as a few other names not mentioned above — were all acknowledged in a fun exercise this week on NFL.com looking at building out the core group of an NFL roster. Take a look at that and some other Packers-related news items below.
Finally, to all of you reading, we hope you have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend.
