Micah Parsons has been the story of the Packers’ season so far, but he wasn’t supposed to be in Green Bay at all. In fact, he didn’t even want to be.
That’s not to say Green Bay isn’t a great place to be. It is. Any Packers fan will tell you so. But Parsons was a dyed-in-the-wool Cowboys fan. He wanted the Cowboys to draft him coming out of Penn State. He hoped to be in Dallas for life.
And then things went sour.
You know the story from there. Parsons has helped the Packers’ defense reach a new level. Through three weeks, no team has allowed fewer points than the Packers. The defense certainly wasn’t the problem during the loss to the Cleveland Browns. The final score showed Cleveland with 13 points, and 10 of those 13 points probably wouldn’t have happened if the other two units had held up their end of the bargain.
Anyhow, Parsons is now preparing to return to the team he never wanted to leave, this time as a visitor. Packers fans are certainly thankful for how this story has turned out, but there has to be an element of bittersweetness for Parsons — though I’d hope a $188 million contract would help with that a bit.
Lots of behind-the-scenes details here, including a really cool nugget about the first thing Parsons said to his Packers teammates when he arrived in Green Bay.
