For a second straight year, former undrafted free agent Frank Crum has made the Denver Broncos’ 53-man roster. However, this time around, Crum was receiving some interest around the league. According to Head Coach Sean Payton, a total of three teams reached out to the Broncos about the availability of Crum.

This proves that if the Broncos did indeed waive Crum with the hopes of getting him on their practice squad that he would likely get claimed. Tackles are hard to find in the NFL, and when you have depth and upside, you do not let that leave the building.

Payton, who has routinely hyped up Crum’s potential, echoed that again today when he told reporters that “We have a clear and really good vision of what we think he can become, and that ceiling is high”.

Crum has the elite size, measurables, athleticism, and untapped potential you look for in a developmental tackle. Payton mentioned his elite athleticism when answering the question, and it is clear they do not want Crum to leave the building. He has shown growth since last season and just deepens their tackle depth on the roster. You can never have enough capable tackles, and Crum gives them that in the present and hopefully, into the future.

Both Garett Bolles and Mike McGlinchey are in their 30s and have dealt with injuries throughout their career. So, having a young tackle with all the tools developing behind them makes a lot of sense. Veteran Matt Peart gives them a talented swing tackle, while Alex Palczewski has shown he can play well at right tackle if needed. These players allow Crum to develop off to the side in the hopes of one day replacing them or at least becoming a talented swing tackle the team can count on when needed.

Let’s see what Zach Strief and the rest of the Broncos’ offensive coaches can do with Crum, and hopefully, he can reach that high ceiling they have projected for him.
