These three players could see more of the field next season.
Because of the way the Packers are built, a lot of the team’s growth is going to come internally. And even though they have money to spend this offseason and draft picks on the way, there will be opportunities for lightly used players from the 2024 Packers to grow into bigger roles in 2024.
Here are three that immediately spring to mind.
A well-regarded third-round pick, Lloyd’s season ended after just 10 snaps, a slew of recurring lower body injuries, and a ruptured appendix.
But aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Jokes aside, Lloyd is probably the easiest “bigger role” to predict. Even if the Packers are high on Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks — and why wouldn’t they be after solid seasons from both in 2024 — they didn’t take Lloyd in the third round to give up after one uninspiring season.
Lloyd, Wilson, and Brooks are pretty comparable backs; they all fit the mold of the burly, stocky back Brian Gutekunst has favored in recent seasons. And of the three, Lloyd is probably the most athletic, giving him an inside track to not just a roster spot, but a bigger role in the Packers’ offense. When and if he gets his body right, Lloyd will be a factor in the backfield, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Packers try to put the pieces together.
As a bonus, you can throw offensive lineman Jordan Morgan in with Lloyd. Like Lloyd, Morgan had an injury-shortened 2024 season. Better health in 2025 will almost certainly lead to a bigger role, especially with the Packers’ interior offensive line potentially in flux with Josh Myers’ 2025 status uncertain.
A squatty fifth-round pick, Monk never actually made it to the field on offense this year. If you paid close attention to the Packers’ field goal and PAT units, you’d have seen him there for 43 snaps during the regular season — though not much down the stretch. Travis Glover took over his duties there for most of the second half of the season.
But after Glover’s disastrous playoff outing, Monk might be in line for a longer look as an interior offensive line candidate. Monk played both center and guard at Duke, which aligns well with the Packers’ potential offensive line needs for 2025. Like I mentioned with Morgan above, his opportunities could hinge on other decisions, but he could at least be an option at either spot.
Another 2024 draft pick, Oladapo appeared sparingly on defense until Week 18. Filling in due to a variety of safety injuries, Oladapo played 50 pretty solid snaps against the Bears, lining up all over the Packers’ defense.
At 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, Oladapo profiles as...
