PITTSBURGH — Three Pittsburgh Steelers missed practice on Wednesday as the team began its preparations for its Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
The Steelers were without quarterback Aaron Rodgers, running back Jaylen Warren and outside linebacker Alex Highsmith on Wednesday. Two other players were limited: left guard Isaac Seumalo and wide receiver/kick returner Ke’Shawn Williams.
Rodgers suffered a left wrist fracture late in the first half of Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mason Rudolph replaced him that game and will start on Sunday if Rodgers is unable to play. Rodgers has not been ruled out for this week said he will try to return to the practice field on Thursday.
Warren suffered an ankle injury early in the second half against the Bengals. He was cleared to return to the game, and called his absence from the second half of the game precautionary. Warren was set to return to the game until the Steelers offense and a defensive touchdown combined to give the team a large lead late in the fourth quarter. Head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that he is optimistic about Warren being able to return this week. Kenneth Gainwell replaced him against the Bengals.
Highsmith missed last week’s game with a pectoral injury suffered the previous week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Nick Herbig has replaced Highsmith at right outside linebacker.
Seumalo has been limited for weeks by a nagging pec injury, but he played the entire game on Sunday.
Williams is in the concussion protocol after leaving Sunday’s game after the opening kickoff.
Two Steelers players, Cornerback Darius Slay and linebacker Cole Holcomb, returned to practice in full on Wednesday. Slay missed last week while in the concussion protocol but is expected to return to the starting lineup. Holcomb has been out several weeks with an undisclosed illness.
