There will be many names that will surface during the Las Vegas Raiders head-coaching search.

There will be some obvious names and some surprise names.

Could Curt Cignetti fit in with the latter category?

The obvious connection to Raiders-Cignetti talk is his Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is currently expected to be the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Raiders in April. Going to the NFL with his Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback would likely be intriguing to Cignetti.

Now, there a lot of other questions about a Raiders’ Cignetti pursuit. He is 64 and he has spent his entire 43-year coaching career in the college ranks. He may not be interested in jumping to the NFL.

So, there’s enough red flags involved here to make it an unlikely pipe dream.

But there is, no doubt, Cignetti, is a wild winner (Google him!) and is a culture changer.

This may not be a fit, but it’s probably worth a phone call for the Raiders.
