Blogging The Boys
The Dallas Cowboys saved the best for last. Following the in-person interviews with Daronte Jones and Jonathan Gannon, the Cowboys had their final scheduled interview with Christian Parker on Wednesday. Dallas was so impressed that they decided to call off the search. They had their guy.
On Thursday, it was reported that the team and Parker had agreed to a deal that would make him the next defensive coordinator. At just 34 years old, Parker becomes the youngest DC in team history. Parker has his work cut out for him trying to turn around a historically bad Dallas defense that ranked near the bottom in every statistical category last year. His top priority should be maximizing the Cowboys draft picks over the last five years.
While Dallas is known for their draft-and-develop approach, it hasn’t panned out the same way on defense as it has on offense. From 2020 to 2025, Dallas has selected 30 defensive players. 21 of those players are no longer with the team.

Of the nine players remaining on the current roster, four of them were rookies in 2025. The Cowboys need Parker to elevate their young talent and help develop them into contributing players. Take Marist Liufau as an example. Under Mike Zimmer as a rookie, Liufau showed flashes of being a productive player at linebacker for the Cowboys and could pair really well with a healthy DeMarvion Overshown. In year two under Matt Eberflus, Liufau looked completely lost.
In the final three games of the season, Liufau saw just 12 snaps on defense, whereas Kenneth Murray had been on the field for 101 snaps. A disconnect at that level stems from the lack of a coordinator to help develop young talent. One of Parker’s strengths as a coach is helping players maximize their talents. In Philadelphia, Parker was heralded for the work he did with cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
Jerry Jones spoke about how disappointed he was in the play from his secondary at the end of the season. The team has invested a lot in the position by handing out a contract extension to DaRon Bland and drafting Shavon Revel in the third round....
