Someone made a hilarious edit of every pass attempt from Philip Rivers in his highly anticipated return to the NFL on Sunday.

One day after the Indianapolis Colts lost Daniel Jones for the season with a torn Achilles, news broke that they were working out Philip Rivers in a desperate move. Rivers, 44, signed a contract and was named the starter for Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rivers hadn’t played an NFL snap in nearly five years. With 10 kids and a grandchild, nobody really knew what to expect of Rivers. But the eight-time Pro Bowler gave his team a chance to win, throwing for 120 yards, a touchdown and one interception in a close 18-16 loss.

Justin Penik of the “Talkin’ Giants” podcast had some fun with the highlights of Rivers’ first NFL game as a grandfather. Penik made a video of every Rivers pass attempt, cutting off each clip right after he released the ball:

Rivers has always had a unique throwing motion. But it worked during his run with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. And it worked for the Colts in 2020, when he led them to an 11-win season and playoff appearance.

Philip Rivers’ Return Is A Story Like No Other

When Tom Brady came out of retirement in 2022, he had been inactive for 40 days. Brett Favre changed his mind over and over again before actually calling it quits in 2011. But Rivers coming back at the age of 44, five years after his last snap? It’s a story you really can’t make up.

Regardless of how Rivers finishes this season, he’s already a winner. Thanks to an agreement the league made with the NFLPA back in 2006, Philip Rivers and his 10 children are eligible for up to five years of health insurance coverage from the NFL.

ESPN’s computer model gives the Colts just a 12 percent chance of making the playoffs. What a story it would be if Rivers got them back in.
