The Kansas City Chiefs own a secret bunker beneath the ground that not even their players knew about.

The AFC supremos are gearing up for another season after losing in the Super Bowl earlier this year. This time around, they’ll have Rashee Rice, who won’t be suspended until the NFL makes its decision in late September.

Players Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and Chris Jones joined head coach Andy Reid on a tour of the location, which became public knowledge only because of the ESPN series ‘The Kingdom’.

The bunker, which is around 150 feet below ground, is a space where the team stores memorabilia and other historic items.

Owner Clark Hunt invited the coach and players down under during the show’s filming, and it was clear that none of them had any idea they were above it the whole time.

“Been here for eight years and never even knew this existed,” a surprised Mahomes said while talking through one of the tunnels. The quarterback should also have a few surprises up his sleeve, given the new trick move he pulled off in training recently.

“This is crazy,” Kelce claimed.

The QB also likened it to something from a “James Bond super villain movie,” with Kelce suggesting it was more ‘Indiana Jones’.

The veteran tight end, while a fan favorite, is under fire for rejecting a young fan’s request for an autograph, so he may be inclined to return to the bunker while the heat blows over.

Will Kansas City Chiefs Fans Get To Visit The Team’s Hitherto Secret Vault?

The Kansas City Chiefs’ bunker is believed to be part of a massive underground complex beneath the city, carved out of limestone called “SubTropolis.”

It isn’t directly beneath Arrowhead Stadium, but it is close enough to the team’s home ground to suggest as much as part of its lore.

As for what’s inside, the Chiefs store historic pieces such as Hank Stram’s coaching shorts, old game footage, and other rare items. They are all preserved with climate control systems similar to what Hollywood uses to store original film reels.

Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, they won’t be able to visit the vault as it isn’t open to the public. Still, they can boast the lore… unless it turns out that every other team in the NFL has one, which would raise many other questions.

‘The Kingdom’ launched on August 14 and is available for streaming across ESPN, ESPN+, and Disney+. The six-episode docuseries details the Chiefs chase of an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat in which they ultimately fell short.
