Field Gulls
On Thursday, the Seattle Seahawks waived DT Quinton Bohanna, who had been up and down the practice squad a number of times this season.
On Friday, Bohanna was claimed off waivers. It’s not the first time this has happened to Seattle, either.
After appearing in five games this season, Bohanna will not be one of the flurry of re-signings the Seahawks have enjoyed this year.
In fact, he’s the third player that Seattle has lost through the waiver wire to another team in the last couple months. That’s above NFL average pace.
Earlier, Derion Kendrick was claimed back by the Los Angeles Rams. And in the first week of November, the Tennessee Titans snatched up Jerrick Reed. Reed was the only Seattle draft pick, but had seen his role ever-diminished after not really finding a place on special teams this year.
Only players with fewer than four years of NFL experience are subject to waivers before the trade deadline, while anyone can be waived after the deadline. It’s another sign of the roster depth that has the Seahawks chasing down the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC. Three young players coveted enough to make 53-man rosters in the span of two months – two of them going to contenders.
All this while Ty Okada has filled in for Julian Love, Drake Thomas for Ernest Jones, Kendrick for Devon Witherspoon, Bohana and Brandon Pili for Jarran Reed, Olu Oluwatimi for Jalen Sundell.
Depth continues to reign supreme in Seattle, although it’s always a little bittersweet to watch guys get grabbed by other teams.
