The Pittsburgh Steelers are catching some heat online after unveiling their new throwback uniforms.
The AFC North outfit ditched the Bumblebee concept in 2018 and has reintroduced an old design inspired by their 1933 team.
Pittsburgh unveiled the new threads this Monday, marking a return to the franchise’s early days.
The Steelers, one of the oldest teams in the NFL, were founded by Arthur J. Rooney in 1933. Originally the Pittsburgh Pirates, they became the Steelers to reflect the city’s industrial heritage.
They have since won six Super Bowls, building a legacy on grit and defense, having been graced by legendary stars such as Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, and “Mean” Joe Greene.
It makes sense that they would want to honor their formative years with their new uniforms. The team released a video to start the week off showing off new gold helmets, gold jerseys with black stripes and large block lettering, and beige pants.
The concept also features a City of Pittsburgh emblem on the left shoulder and trousers.
Check out their reveal below:
The Steelers will wear these new threads for a ‘Sunday Night Football’ against the Green Bay Packers in October.
Unfortunately, some fans are refusing to rock with it.

“These really really suck. This team needs to hire some third party talent to design their unis. Not Scooter from Penn Hills,” a user suggested.
Too many gimmicks. Not enough big wins. And these really really suck. This team needs to hire some third party talent to design their unis. Not Scooter from Penn Hills.

The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t make many changes. They hardly replace head coaches and have only had three over the last 56 years.
Uniforms don’t undergo many alterations either, so whenever they do, it’s usually representative of a retro era.
Of course, not everyone hates the new legacy threads. There were plenty of positive comments, too. It’s probably better to say they’ve split the opinion for now.
