The Dallas Cowboys should be a frisky team in the NFC this fall. Dallas is already getting Super Bowl hype after making some significant upgrades on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. One young Cowboys defender could play a key role in the secondary this season.
Cowboys cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. is extremely confident in himself ahead of the 2026 season. He declared that he eventually wants to be the best player in the NFL during a recent interview.
“I don’t want to do too much overthinking, but my main goal is to obviously be the best player I can be and the best teammate I can be,” Revel said, per Nick Harris of Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Cleaning up a few things that I had a few errors on last year. I’m taking it slow and just taking it day-by-day.”
Revel had a quiet rookie season after recovering from his season-ending ACL injury from the 2024 season. He showed some promise, logging 35 total tackles with three passes defensed in just seven games. It does not look like much, but Revel proved he is a capable cornerback on an awful Cowboys defense. If he stays healthy, he could be in for a breakout season in 2026.
Revel also explained that he’s learned to block out the noise from the media. He is ready to get back to work and improve his game ahead of the 2026 season.
“One thing about me, I’m going to ignore the noise,” Revel said. “One thing my dad taught me, if you go out there and play, go out there and play. That’s my opportunity to showcase something on the map.”
Revel will benefit from Christian Parker’s new defensive scheme, and from playing alongside rookie Caleb Downs.
It will be fascinating to see if Dallas can finally become contenders again in 2026. Cowboys fans will get their first look when training camp kicks off in late July.
