The Green Bay Packers could look a bit different on offense in 2026. Green Bay lost multiple wide receivers this offseason and did not make any significant additions to replace them. Perhaps that is because the Packers already know they have a secret weapon at tight end.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky named backup tight end Josh Whyle as a player who could surprise Packers fans this fall.

“Tucker Kraft is TE1 and Luke Musgrave is still here. But a third tight end has emerged,” Demovsky wrote. “Whyle took significant snaps with the starters this offseason after catching just five passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in eight games last season for the Packers, who signed him to their practice squad after Tennessee released him.”

The Titans selected Whyle in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. Whyle spent the first two seasons of his career in Tennessee before being waived in August of 2025. Green Bay then added Whyle to their practice squad on August 28th before finally elevating him to the active roster on November 4th.

Whyle performed well during his limited opportunities in 2025, and it sounds like he’s only gotten more comfortable this offseason. Even his teammate Kraft is impressed with what Whyle has brought to the table this offseason.

“We can’t believe that the Titans would let a product like that go,” Kraft said, per Demovsky. “And we’re fortunate to have him.”

Whyle has yet to put up huge stats during his NFL career, but that should be no surprise for a blocking tight end. Fortunately, the Packers love to run the football and should give Whyle plenty of opportunities to prove himself.

If Whyle can take a big step forward this fall, Green Bay’s offense could be more dangerous than ever.

It will be fascinating to see if Whyle continues to receive hype once training camp kicks off later this summer.
