The New York Giants will report to training camp this week, as they look to get the franchise back on track with new head coach John Harbaugh.

After making upgrades to the roster via free agency and the draft, we’ll get to see how the players perform when the pads come on. The team will have 24 practice sessions with media availability and three preseason games.

Throughout the summer, Harbaugh will look to establish a winning attitude and culture. But in addition, there are four objectives the team will need to accomplish.

Avoid Injuries

Injuries in football are inevitable, but if the team suffers a major injury, it would be devastating. After losing Gunner Olszewski and Roy Robertson-Harris to Achilles injuries in the spring, they can ill afford to have another key player suffer a serious injury.

It was revealed last week that Malik Nabers wouldn’t be put on the PUP list ahead of training camp. This gives optimism that he’ll be on the practice field sometime this summer. His health and the team’s health overall will be key factors in determining their success.

Get the Rookies Up to Speed

Transitioning from college to the NFL can be difficult for rookies. Not only do they have to get acclimated to the speed and physicality of the NFL, but they have to learn new systems.

New York was given high praise for their rookie class, but now we’ll have to see how quickly they can transition to the NFL. The difference between a winning season and a losing season can come down to how well a team’s rookies can adapt to the NFL.

If New York’s top four selections from the 2026 NFL Draft can produce immediately, it will bode well for their chances of making the playoffs.

Get in Tune With New Offensive and Defensive Schemes

This year, the team will have new offensive and defensive coordinators. Matt Nagy takes over the offense, and Dennard Wilson takes over for the defense.

There will be a learning curve in grasping the new offense, especially for quarterback Jaxson Dart. But Nagy must make sure his quarterback and the rest of the offense are clicking on all cylinders.

Wilson will bring an aggressive approach to the defense, which should bring out the best in the front seven. However, when learning a new system, the backend of the defense may have communication issues. Wilson must make sure his entire unit is on the same page for the regular season.

Pick the Right Placekicker

Ben Sauls and undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada are the two men competing to be the team’s placekicker. After converting all eight of his field goal attempts in 2025, Sauls struggled during OTAs. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the 24-year-old placekicker converted only 7 out of 14...
