Tampa Bay Buccaneers star running back Bucky Irving’s government name is trending on social media ahead of his second year in the NFL.
Irving was selected in the fourth round of last year’s draft. He wasted no time establishing himself as one of the most electric young RBs in the league, building on his reputation for explosive playmaking and versatility following college stints at Oregon and Minnesota.
Fans know the player as Bucky, but that’s not actually his name. The running back and kick returner’s real name is Mar’Keise Irving, a fact highlighted by MLFootball this week.
“I would keep it a secret too,” one fan joked.

Mar’Keise Bucky Irving had a remarkable first season in the pros, playing in all 17 games for Tampa Bay in 2024, registering 1,122 rushing yards on 207 carries, rushing for 5.4 yards per carry.
He scored eight rushing touchdowns, adding 47 catches for 392 receiving yards, earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team.
The 22-year-old started behind Rachaad White on the depth chart but saw his role expand as the season wore on. He experienced a breakout game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 13, recording 153 rushing yards, 33 receiving yards, and a touchdown. The outing earned him the NFC Player of the Week award.
He put in similar performances in Week 15 and Week 17.
The former Ducks standout’s agility, explosiveness, and low center of gravity make him tough to deal with in open space, while his contributions in the passing game and on special teams make him a valuable piece for the Bucs.
The franchise will hope to have him play out another injury-free campaign in 2025 and continue to build on his already fearsome reputation.
