Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson made the bombshell claim this week that the NFL specifically told teams not to draft Shedeur Sanders in order to make an example of him. If true, it would explain how Sanders went from a potential top 10 pick to being taken in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.
Eric Dickerson made this allegation during an appearance on the Roggin and Rodney Show , saying he had heard about the NFL’s order to teams about Shedeur Sanders through a “very good source.” And that wasn’t the only outlandish thing he says he was told.
“I tell you this much, what I heard from someone that’s in the NFL that the NFL told [teams] don’t draft him, do not draft him,” Dickerson said. “We’re going to make an example out of him. And this came from a very good source, a very good source.”
But wait, there’s more.
“He said that, I won’t say who, somebody called the Cleveland Browns and said, ‘Don’t do that, draft him,’” Dickerson added. “Because they weren’t going to draft him either. They weren’t going to draft him. They were forced into drafting him because somebody made a call to them.”
Dickerson would later double down, telling the show’s hosts, “He was not gonna get drafted, to basically show you this is what happens when you do this. I mean look, you know, Fred, the NFL got all kind of power. They do all kind of stuff. You know, you know that and I know it too. But no, they were they were not going to draft him. And like, when I said it came from a good source, I say it came from a very, very good source.”
The NFL, according to Dickerson, told NFL teams not to draft Shedeur Sanders “to basically show you ‘this is what happens when you do this.'” Sanders’ draft stock reportedly fell after meeting with teams at the NFL Combine with one NFL quarterback scout saying the former Colorado Buffaloes star was “brash” and “arrogant” in his team interview.

Interestingly, Eric Dickerson isn’t the first former NFL player to make wild claims about Shedeur Sanders. Boomer Esiason made similar allegations back in April right after the NFL Draft.
“I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend,” he said. “They didn’t even have him on their board. They took him off. And they took him off because the owner said, ‘Take him off. I don’t want that guy.'”
