Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Haiston will be in Green Bay next week
Usually, when the NFL announces the players who are going to be attending the draft officially, that decision is final. I can’t remember the last time a player has been added to the pool of players who will be in the green room for the draft in the past.
That’s exactly what is happening this year, though, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler. Per Brugler, Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who wasn’t one of the original 17 players who were announced as draft attendees earlier this week, will be in Green Bay next week for the festivities.
Hairston’s inclusion is interesting, as he ranks behind every attending prospect other than Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe on the consensus draft board. At the moment, Hairston is ranked as the 36th overall player in the draft. That’s good for the fourth cornerback in the class behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Michigan’s Will Johnson and Texas’ Jahdae Barron.
Notably, Hairston ranks ahead of two players the Green Bay Packers have brought in on pre-draft visits: East Carolina’s Shavon Revel Jr. (37th) and Ole Miss’ Trey Amos (40th).
According to NFL.com’s team needs, the following teams could potentially take Hairston starting around the 20th overall pick: Denver, Green Bay, Minnesota, Houston, the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore, Washington, Buffalo and Philadelphia. There’s no shortage of cornerback-needy teams. The fact that Hairston will be in attendance over the likes of Revel and Amos is a hint that the league believes one of these teams will bite on him, specifically, in the first round.
For what it’s worth, Hairston has taken pre-draft visits with the Falcons, Bills, Broncos, Lions, Raiders, Jets, Eagles and Commanders this offseason.
