It appears as though detractors of the Philadelphia Eagles’ most unstoppable offensive weapon are going to get their wish. The possibility of banning the “Tush Push” has been on the table since the end of the NFL season, and now it’s drawing closer to a reality. A vote from NFL owners will come next week on whether or not to ban the controversial play, with Dianna Russini of The Athletic saying that there’s now momentum behind banning the play. The first push to ban the play came from the Green Bay Packers, but there had been whispers about frustration over the play brewing for several years — peaking this last season as the Buffalo Bills added the Tush Push to their repertoire as well.

“I’m hearing that the ‘Tush Push’ is building some momentum,” Russini said. “I know we talked about it here on the show, where I said that I think this probably would not be the year or I could see a change happen. I feel like it’s getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I’ve ever heard before. Usually, it’s like everyone going, ‘Nah, nah, nah,’ and there are those one or two people that sit on it and are against it, but it’s catching fire.”

We’re mentioning it because of this observation about a tush-push ban from Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com: “I feel like it’s getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I’ve ever heard before.” That’s all relative, of course. If there’s never been much momentum against the play (and there hasn’t been), any momentum would be more than ever before. All that matters for present purposes is 24. Is there a proposal, any proposal, that would get 24 owners to support it. Most importantly, would that proposal truly ban the maneuver? The Packers’ proposal would merely delay it. If there are 24 owners who want to get rid of it entirely, it would be very easy to do it.
