Who’s Kevin Patullo? The new Eagles OC brings continuity for Jalen Hurts — but he insists he’s not an extension of Nick Sirianni - PHLY
“I don’t know if there’s too many coaches that are more detailed than Kevin — extremely detailed, extremely diligent, very sharp schematically, and he has a breadth of schematic knowledge,” said safeties coach Joe Kasper, who has worked on the staff for three of the past four years. “He’s somebody that has worked in a few different offensive systems and circles, and right now I see him put things together for us and kind of help put the guardrails on things to try and get us to a point. He helps the staff a lot in that way, both offensively, from what I see, but also just structurally for the whole staff. So empowering him in a role like (offensive coordinator) would be outstanding for him. Well-deserving and a great, great coach.” That’s been a common reaction, but it doesn’t answer the two lingering questions: How Patullo will function as a play-caller and whether he’s simply an extension of Sirianni. Time will tell on the first question, but Patullo fought back on the second part. Perhaps it’s true that Patullo’s hire is Sirianni can flex his muscles after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Inside the building, though, the pitch is that Sirianni did not hire a puppet. If anything, he hired someone unafraid of him.

Said Sirianni of Patullo: “Very important to the success that we’ve had. He wears a lot of different hats. Helps me a lot with different head coaching things. I can’t tell you that I make a decision without saying to Kevin first, ‘What do you think?’ That’s in everything. That’s in-game, out of game, with scheduling, that’s with offensive stuff, that’s with game-management stuff, I lean on him a lot. That continuity is really important because he knows what I’m thinking in certain situations, how you want things to be taught, all of those different things, so he’s been a great resource for me the entire time, our success this year, but really the success we’ve had since we’ve been here. Can’t be great without the greatness of others and that is definitely a fact with Kevin Patullo and I trust him with everything. Got a ton of trust and faith with him. He’s awesome.”
Patullo It Is - Iggles Blitz
Is there a risk in this hire? Patullo could prove to be in over his head. Being part of the offensive staff is different from being the OC. The only way to find out is for Patullo to get a chance to show what he can do. He’ll be able to lean on veteran coaches like Jason Michael, Sirianni and Stoutland. Michael and Sirianni have each been an OC. Stoutland has had a key hand...
