There are a lot of frustrating things with the current Jets defense. Near the top of the list for me is how constantly guys run themselves out of position on play action. Take Jake Ferguson’s touchdown on Sunday. It came on a screen pass.
The screen, however, starts with a fake handoff that sucks almost the entire Jets defense in.
By the time the screen is thrown, the Jets only have two defenders even remotely close to the play. There’s almost nobody to screen because of how hard the defense bit on play action.
The Cowboys are easily able to block this up.
The last Jets defender with a shot is Andre Cisco, but he doesn’t exactly give a world class effort to get to the football.
If you have been following my writing this season or listening to my podcasts, you have probably heard me complain about how easy the Jets defense makes it on the opponent. This is a perfect example. Few players even have a chance to do anything here because the entire defense is so far out of position.
