The NFL world is in mourning after former Bengals defensive tackle Oliver Gibson passed away at the age of 53.
His cause of death has not been released.
Gibson played nine seasons in the NFL after the Steelers selected the former Fighting Irish star.
He was taken by the Steelers in the fourth round (120th overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Pittsburgh before signing with Cincinnati.
Gibson spent five seasons with the Bengals and started 57 straight games from 1999 to 2002 after signing with Cincinnati in free agency in March 1999.
After his playing days, Gibson got into coaching at the high school level. He was named head football coach at his alma mater, Romeoville High School.
In all, Oliver Gibson played in 133 games, recorded 17.5 sacks, and 243 combined tackles. The best season of his career came in 1999, when he put together 4.5 sacks with 41 tackles.
