The Cowboys’ offense shone brightly in 2025
Inside The Star Inside The Star

When sifting through the wreckage of the Dallas Cowboys’2025 season, the offense is the only unit that emerges unscathed.

The Cowboys were 2nd in both total yards (6,663) and passing yards (4,527).

Dallas was 9th in rushing yards (2,136) and 7th in points with 471. Those numbers would get most teams into the playoffs with ease.

But most teams wouldn’t be saddled with the defense that the Cowboys’ offense had to overcome on top of the opponent’s own defense on a weekly basis.

Dallas’ offense finished tied with the Cardinals and Chargers for 14th in total turnovers (21).

The Cowboys had the 11th most interceptions thrown with 12 and 11th most fumbles lost with nine. But the defense only had 12 takeaways (6 each), leaving Dallas tied for third-worst differential of -9.

Seattle, the NFC No. 1 seed, was second in total turnovers with 28 behind Minnesota’s 30.

The Seahawks’ defense, unlike the Cowboys, erased most of those miscues by generating 25 takeaways.

The Field Generals

For the first time in his 10-year career, Dak Prescott completed over 400 passes (404) but failed to make the playoffs.

The other two years he cracked 400 completions came in 2021 and 2023, when he had 410 completions in each of those years.

Dallas made the playoffs in both seasons with a 12-5 record. This year’s 7-9-1 finish fell well short.

Prescott surpassed the 4,000 yard mark (4,552) and 30-plus touchdowns (30) for the fourth time.

He also threw 600 passes in 2025 to set a new career high. But he also ended with double-digit interceptions (10) for the fifth time.

The Cowboys have missed the playoffs in three of those five seasons.

Joe Milton saw action in just four games. He finished 15-for-24 for 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

That wasn’t much to work with to know if Milton is the long-term answer as Prescott’s backup and eventual replacement.

The Workhorses

Javonte Williams was a godsend for a team that needed to shore up its running back room.

Williams had 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns despite sitting out the final game.

Hunter Luepke came on late in his fullback roll. Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah teased their potential in the season opener after being MIA most of the year.

Who knows if Malik Davis will be back in 2026?

The Receivers

Both George Pickens (93-1,429-9) and CeeDee Lamb (75-1,077-3) had their ups and downs in 2025. They could be an unstoppable force in 2026.

They could also be their own worst enemies.

Ryan Flournoy might be poised on the edge of a breakout season in 2026.

He finished with 40 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns. By the end of the year, he was entrenched at WR3.

Jake Ferguson rebounded from a disappointing 2024 season with 82 catches for 600 yards and eight touchdowns.

Brevyn Spann-Ford might have muscled his way past Luke Schoonmaker for the back-up tight end role in 2026.
