Let’s get it back to the NFL. ESPN BET just posted some markets for Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty and they’ve got the Dallas Cowboys listed as the favorite to draft the Boise State running back:

  • Cowboys +190
  • Bears +350
  • Broncos +500

It makes sense on paper. Zeke Elliott was released and found his way to the Chargers practice squad. Dalvin Cook barely even played this year and might not even exist and leading rusher Rico Dowdle (1,079 yards, two TDs) is a free agent. They’ve got basically nothing in the running back department unless Dowdle signs a new contract.

The Cowboys have the 12th pick and a lot of needs. They need a running back, defensive tackle, WR2 behind CeeDee Lamb, a corner, a linebacker, and now reinforcement on the O line with Zack Martin retiring. Most of the mock drafts have some combination of Abdul Carter, Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, and Travis Hunter in the top five, then a mix between 5 and 11. The Cowboys are probably not getting Mason Graham or Will Johnson to fall to then, but will be in position to draft offensive line when Jeanty is on the board. Chicago drafts 10th overall and Denver is 20th.

If you go through Pennsylvania sports betting apps and New Jersey sports betting apps as well, you see that draft props aren’t widely available yet. DraftKings does have Jeanty at +190 to the Cowboys as well, so that’s probably going to be unanimous when the rest of the books post their numbers. On one hand, it would be kind of lame to see Jeanty end up in Dallas, but is it anything Earth-shattering? Does it change the division and strike fear in your heart? Probably not. They need so many pieces down there that you don’t feel like any one selection is going to move the needle for them. And knowing Jerry and Stephen Jones, they’ll find a way to screw it up.
