The Las Vegas Raiders added undrafted rookie Carter Runyan to the 53-man roster after they placed standout left tackle Kolton Miller on the injured reserve this week.
It was an interesting move. Carter is a little-known small-school player who did shine in the preseason. He was signed to the practice squad after not making the initial 53-man roster in August.
Let’s take a closer look at Runyan:
Size:
6-4, 243 pounds.
NFL experience:|
He was elevated from the practice squad for the Bears game last week. He played 15 snaps on special teams.
College:
Runyan went to Towson (Towson, Maryland) in 2023-24. Prior to that, Runyan was at another small school, Shenandoah University (Winchester, Virginia). He appeared in 39 games games and had 104 career receptions for 1,212 yards and 10 touchdowns.
How he will fit in with Raiders:
He’s the fourth tight end on the roster behind Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer and Ian Thomas. Bowers has been playing through a knee injury and Mayer has dealt with a concussion that kept him out of Week 4. So, Runyan’s depth is needed. It will be interesting to see if he is active when Mayer returns. If so, he will likely be a special teams player as he was in Week 4.
