The Cincinnati Bengals will be looking to get up off the mat following another blowout and prepare to face arguably their toughest test yet when the Detroit Lions come to Paycor Stadium for a Week 5 bout.
Prior to Monday Night Football’s loss to the Denver Broncos to the tune of 28-3, the Bengals opened as 9.5-point underdogs against the Lions, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The line has now grown to 10.5 points with an over/under of 48.5 points.
Detroit is one of the best teams in the NFL. Their offense is a well-oiled machine, and their coaching staff doesn’t hold any punches. Quarterback Jared Goff has been reborn in Detroit and has been able to rely on one of the most efficient running games to create play-action opportunities.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati has been outscored by 63 points in the last two weeks combined. They faced a Carson Wentz-led Minnesota Vikings and a struggling Denver Broncos offense that was getting booed off the field previously.
Mind you, the Bengals knew they would be without Joe Burrow going into both of those games. The plan sans Burrow with Jake Browning instead just hasn’t been working. It was either turning the ball over all the time against the Vikings or never crossing midfield after the first drive of the game against the Broncos.
These past two games were some of the more winnable ones in the supposed 12-week window Burrow will be gone. It’s scary to think how bad Sunday could go if the Bengals don’t come prepared to play.
