Vic Tafur of The Athletic recently spoke with San Francisco 49ers CEO Al Guido, and there’s a chance the team will relocate its practice facility.
There was an image during OTAs of Mike Evans running around with the electric substation in the background. While the internet didn’t miss the opportunity to joke about that photo, the move would be more about a lack of space than the nearby substation.
The conversation came up when Guido was discussing how much of a success the recent Super Bowl was for Levi’s Stadium, and why Santa Clara should host more Super Bowls moving forward:
They just put a lot of money into the weight room and hydrotherapy, as well as the locker room and cafe. Additionally, they are exploring a possible nearby relocation as they are running out of space at and next to Levi’s Stadium.
Guido said the 49ers “can spend as much money as we want on coaches and on support staff for our players,” which led to the talk about renovating the team’s facilities, and potentially moving.
If you’ve ever been to the 49ers’ practice facilities, you know it’s not the biggest complex. Guido said, “You want to give yourself the best hand,” and that includes facilities as well.
Guido continued:
“Everything is geared to winning the Super Bowl. We have been to three in the last 30 years and not won any. That’s the appetite with everyone here, and this is the right time to do it. In talking to our fans, I think they feel that, too.”
This wouldn’t be a move that happens overnight, but it’d be interesting to see where the team moves and whether there’s any correlation with injuries that come from a relocation.
